The goal of my work was to take close-up pictures of fruit that would pop in color and stand out. I wanted my pictures to look very simple and clean while also looking unique and fun. I expect my audience to appreciate the simplicity of the composition and take their time noticing all the textures and colors of the fruit. Looking at my work you should feel happy because of the way I used bright and happy colors. I was inspired by the style of photography used in commercials which would usually try to make the product or the subject stand out. I also experimented with different angles, backgrounds and compositions. Overall, my project was all about creativity and fun.
During the class of Digital Media Arts, the learning objective was to learn how to use a camera to take quality photographs using manual mode. Throughout the second semester, we explored how to create a meaningful and organized thematic portfolio. We also started using Photoshop to edit and improve all of our pictures. This is valuable to my future because photography and Photoshop are used in many jobs nowadays and it is a useful skill to know.
For our final we were required to decide on one theme that we wanted to focus on and create a thematic portfolio. Ideally, the thematic portfolio would be submitted to a photography contest. We had to submit 10 pictures that all had a similar subject, theme or mood. We also had to write an artist statement about our work.
To complete this project, I first researched different themes that other photographers focused on for inspiration and different contests I could submit my photographs to. At first I wanted to take pictures of trees as most contests focused on pictures of nature, but I later decided that taking pictures of trees didn't excite me. After looking at more photographs online I decided tat taking colorful pictures of fruit would be something new and fun. Then I started taking pictures. During this process I experimented with different compositions and colors that would make the simple objects more interesting. After taking over a hundred unique photos, I chose the best ones and edited them in Photoshop Express. Finally, I completed my artists statement and submitted the work. Throughout this process listed above, I realized I have learned a lot about photography and photo editing, two skills that are completely new to me. Working with a camera hands-on tells me that I can learn a lot with projects that I can physically engage in.
With this projects, I have demonstrated the School-Wide Learning Outcome of a self-directed learner who communicates effectively by experimenting with new things and listening to my teachers feedback. This is important because knowing how to communicate and take feedback can improve your work. Another SLO I have demonstrated with the projects is applying technological skills for the 21st century. I learned how to upload pictures from my phone to my drive and how to edit them using photo-editing apps.
Overall this class has thought me many useful skills that might be useful to me in the future. While completing this project I had the opportunity to see the world from a different perspective and to express my creativity.
