In Mr. Tenants Business technology class, we learn about starting a business, coming up with creative ideas and products, and how to manage money. I believe this class will help me manage money in the future and help me start my own business. For our NFTE innovation project, we had to work in a team to come up with an original business idea that would help our environment or society. We had 5 different problems that we could choose from. Me and my partner, Luis Flores, choose to help the climate change.
Our business idea was called Solar Plan, and our original innovation was a Portable Solar Panel that was able to power and charge electronic appliances, Like I have mentioned before, for the project we had to work in a team to come up with an original business idea that would help our environment or society. We had a variety of problems to choose from, from which we would come up with an innovative solution. To succeed, we wrote down our research and ideas in a document. We later revised our paragraphs in a prewritten form and submitted the final draft to the NFTE website.
From this project, I learned to communicate and work with my partner. I learned how to cooperate and share our ideas. I think this work shows that I can work with people even in challenging situations and problems. Luis and I communicated effectively while working together. We showed a lot of effort and made sure that we stayed on track and didn't fall behind in class. I feel like I could have demonstrated the “Thinking critically and creatively” SLO better because our idea wasn't as original and creative. I believe that if we thought about our project carefully, we would have come up with a better innovation.
Two of the most important things I have learned in this class are the steps an individual needs to take to start a business and how to work with other people to succeed. It all starts with an idea. Learning this inspired me to start my own business. I can apply the knowledge I have taken from this class to my future ideas and plans.
MIT App Inventor - Budgety
During the class of Business Technology, the learning objectives are to be able to create an app that will make a profit. This is valuable to my future because it will help me get an idea of how to start a business, improve my coding skills, and make a functional and an aesthetically pleasing app. The project I chose as my artifact is my app Budgety. Budgety is an application that helps people with finance. Its functions will help you with organizing your money and budget. To finish this project successfully, me and my partner, Luis Flores, equally divided our work and communicated efficiently. To start, we thought about common problems that many people face and how could our app help with solving it. Then we thought about our target market and sketched out our design of the app. The final step was to begin our design and coding in an MIT App Inventor and bring our app to life. Throughout this process listed above, I have learned how to create an app and to make it useful for people. The Two School Wide Learning Outcomes I demonstrated with this Artifact are “applying technological skills for the 21st century” and “thinking critically and creatively”. I have demonstrated this by coding, technology, and overall basing our entire project on modern problems that require modern solutions. Overall, the most important thing I have learned in this class is how to create an app and get an idea of how to start and run a business. The skills I have learned in this class will help me in the future by making me more prepared for an independent life and expanding my possible careers or jobs. Everything I’ve learned is fundamental to any technology-based business.
