In Mr. Richard’s art class, we learn about different types and techniques to create art. So far, we have learned about visual balance, values, cross hatching techniques, and many other aspects of creating art. We learn through project-based learning. Everything I learn in this class will help me create good quality art in the future.
The area of learning for the Skull project is cross hatching, textures, and values. We had to create a textured skull with 5 different values, 15 unique quality textures in high quality. The theme of my project is Halloween or Spooky Stuff. I used textures and cross hatching techniques to create a textured skull with over 5 values. The process I went threw to succeed was to start with a draft. I made sure to count how many textures and values I was using as I was sketching my design. I made sure that certain parts of the skull stood out, such as the eyes and the spooky characters inside the skull. When working on the final draft, I made sure my lines were clean and clear.
I learned how to balance out an art piece with values and be patient when creating a project that takes a more extended period to complete. This project shows that I’m an organized planner and shows the perfectionist side of me. I learn from observing and physically trying and creating projects on my own.
This artifact demonstrates my success in “thinking critically and creatively” because I carefully planned and created my project. I carefully thought about where i should use a certain texture and value to make the project visually balanced. I’m “mastering skills needed in career and college” because I plan to be an artist in the future. My project was above standard and I learned a lot from creating it. I could have demonstrated “Self Directed learner who communicates effectively” because I didn't communicate enough with my teacher and feel like i could have done better if I had.
Two most important things I have learned in this class this year is how to use visual balance and values. These skills will help me in the future because I can now create good quality artworks which are pleasing to look at. I know how to create a balancing art piece that uses many values to make specific things more noticeable. I believe that those are the most critical aspects of creating perfectible art.
The project I chose to submit is the an Art History Presentation. For this project we were required to pick an artist and research their work and art style. We had to gather information and visuals and put together a successful presentation. I chose to research Gustav Klimt, a famous Austrian painter.
First I gathered basic information such as place and date of birth, art medium, and education. Than I found 10 paintings created by Gustav and added them to my Google Slides Presentation. After adding this information, I chose an image that stood out to me and individually described it threw the DAIE process (description, analysis, interpretation, and evaluation).
The Two School Wide Learning Outcomes I demonstrated with this Artifact are “self-directed learner who communicates effectively” and “applying technological skills for the 21st century” Throughout this process I have applied technological skills for the 21st century while creating my slideshow presentation. I also demonstrated that I am a self-directed learner by doing my presentation independently. I could have improved in being a self directed learner by completing my work on the first deadline.
Overall the the most important things I have learned from this project are being a successful student and presenting my work with confidence. These skills I have learned in this class will help me in in the future presentations in high school as well as college.
